An Admirable Lepidoterous Creature

Blog Post Number: 4 Days Since Diagnosis: 129 Purpose: general update, narrative, I rose this morning from a heavy and heady slumber to find myself housed in a peculiar and oddly unrecognised room. Peculiar in that it was unfamiliar to me, not that the content of the room was anyway strange, quirky, or unexpected. Most certainly, however, it was clear I was not in the room to which I regularly retire. Though confused as the Fog of Morpheus drained from my body and awareness became more aligned to my usual window to the world around a me, I came to realise where I had found myself upon the cusp of this morning's dawn. My fast would once more be broken amongst other patient patrons of Redcliffe General Hospital. Wait, that sounds quite dramatic and rather as if I caught unawares amongst the effects of an opoid that had been placed discretely within my meals, then taken against my knowledge, wit, or desire. This was of course not the case. I was merely so effected by the d...

Excitement, Disappointment, Interrogation, Depression

Blog Post Number: 3 Days Since Diagnosis: 100 Purpose:excitement, disappointment, narrative, I first started working on this post on Thursday. And it was quite a happy thing. But then some things  happened  that completely threw my mood. Screwed it up in a ball of tissue paper and threw it straight in to waste paper basket. Because I'm still not sure how I feel about things yet and not too sure how to move them into a consistent narrative, I'm breaking this into 4 sections Blog Post Number: 3.1 (The Excitement) Days Since Diagnosis: 98 Purpose: Excitement My second to last visit to hospital was an eleven day affair, filled with tests, scans, xrays, an endoscopy, nearly colonoscopies, and a flexible sigmoidoscopy. If you don't know what a flexible sigmoidoscopy is, please don't feel any need to look up, it is a terribly indelicate thing, and the less we discuss it the better. It was also a trip that triggered the monotony of hospital food, and brought...

Learning the language of the hospital

Blog Post Number: 2 Days Since Diagnosis: 95 Purpose: Language Hospitals, like any microcosm of society, have a set of language that is uniquely it's own. Certain words and phrases that to an outsider seem straight forward enough, but in fact can often go so the other way that they can come across as an o utright lie. Here is one of the times that I have encountered this type of language during my recent visits to the hospital. I think that this might become a type of recurring post. "It might make you feel like you want to sneeze" My last two trips to the hospital, that is this current visit and the one before it, I came in because I had trouble breathing. The first time, although I was clearly struggling with breathing and coughing up unpleasantness from the lungs, none of the scans (CT, X-Ray, and ultrasound) indicated that there was anything overly wrong. I was also presenting strong cold like symptoms. Unfortunately, due to my condition, I can not take...

Introduction

Blog Post Number: 1 Days Since Diagnosis: 93 Purpose: Introduction, Narrative Approximately 98 days ago I woke up of a Sunday morning. There was nothing particularly untoward or noteworthy of this Sunday, it was just an absolutely normal, run of the week Sunday morning. At the very least, this is how everything seemed until in the still sleepy haze of Sunday morning, I brushed my teeth. Following is an outline of the general pattern of activity that I normally follow to get my teeth clean and my whole mouth feeling fresh: rinse toothbrush put toothpaste on toothbrush brush teeth rinse mouth with water check in mirror brush teeth again rinse mouth with water again rinse toothbrush put toothbrush away get on with the day However, this Sunday approximately 98 days ago, this process was interrupted. Following is a revised pattern to indicate the point of interruption, and the results thereof. rinse toothbrush put toothpaste on toothbrush brush teeth...
